First Day CSI 5th Grade!

Welcome 5th graders to CSI, Brenham! We spent some time getting to know each other by writing three things about ourselves: One a lie and the other two true. It was fun to guess who the person was by just reading the clues. Then we had to guess what was the "lie". Some of the kids tried to "trick" their classmates such as Savannah's lie: " I have black hair." Everyone was looking around the room for the student with the black hair. No one guessed Savannah with her beautiful red hair!:-)
In the lab, we experimented to solve the Case of the Mysterious White Fizz. Students enjoyed wearing their safety goggles and mixing baking soda and Damp Rid to cause a chemical reaction.
The experiment is # 10 in this attached file:

Mrs. Schoppe showed the kids how to use the website: Build your WildSelf:
We have some great self portraits and descriptions of our students!

First Day CSI 4th Grade

It was great to have the 4th graders come to CSI today. I have spent weeks preparing and they were finally here. I thought I was ready, but I don't think you are ever completely ready 100% when you teach school! One of the favorite things they love is Nathan Levy's "Stories With Holes". See if you can figure it out: "Tim loves his work. He spends all day making faces, but nobody thinks he's very funny. Why?" The students have to ask yes or no questions to figure it out. If they use deductive thinking and ask good questions they can figure it out really fast!!
We had some special visits from Albert Einstein, Marie Curie, Benjamin Franklin and of course, our principal, Mr. Ogg. The kids liked wearing the mask of their favorite scientist or principal! Here are the first 6! Can you guess who they are??

They loved the experiment: What Makes the Water Rise? Steve Spangler science has the link to the experiment if you want to try it at home with your parent's help, of course!!

Open House 2011-2012

Square Bubbles! Lots was going on in the CSI science lab as students experimented with Poppers, Inertia Rings 3-D images, and made square bubbles! So much thanks to Ruth Schoppe, Kyle Kmiec, and Patsy Andreas. Kyle took all the orders for new lab coats, journals and goggles. Ruth had a cool smart board activity with the Koosh Ball and helped with t-shirt orders. Without Patsy, we would never have accomplished square bubbles. The kids loved them.

Benjamin Franklin looked a lot different last night at Open House! Students chose a scientist or principal for a photo to be placed on our bulletin board entitled "Future Scientists!" (More pictures to come.) It was great to see all the new faces. We had over 34 families visit the CSI Lab at Alton Elementary!

Students could choose Benjamin Franklin, Marie Curie, Albert Einstein or our Principal, Michael Ogg!
