Back to School Wordles

For the last few years, the scientists have been making their own Wordle as their name tag for their computer station. If you don't know about Wordle, it is a web 2.0 tool that can be used in endless ways with students. From Wordle.net: "Wordle is a toy for generating “word clouds” from text that you provide. The clouds give greater prominence to words that appear more frequently in the source text." So to have students make name tags, first give them a Wordle Worksheet to fill out. Wordle Worksheet
I loved how the finished scientist-made Wordles  looked and usually we have about 45- 50 kids in the computer lab per year.  This year, with campus building and remodeling going on, we added two more grades to the computer lab, so having 90 - 8 1/2" x 11" wordles on the wall presented a problem. I didn't see that the Wordle site had an option to change the print size, so I came up with a tedious but not too difficult way to print the Wordle to about 5 x 8.
Here are some Wordle Directions for the kids and they are a bit long..... but  now the lab will have a mini-wordle to put on the wall behind each computer!
